Abstract:
This dataset is comprised of a reduced set of bathymetric sounding points generated from a Bureau of Reclamation source and has been provided for general characterization of the floor of the Salton Sea, and in addition, for labeling maps in the Salton Sea Atlas. These points allow for the labeling of both water depth and elevation relative to mean sea level. The data is a simple subset of the considerably larger bathymetric point inventory developed from the Bureau of Reclamation sounding point project.
Purpose:
This data was developed to facilitate labeling of a number of sounding points for the navigational chart of the Salton Sea, and secondarily, for the Salton Sea Atlas.

Original dataset converted into geospatial points using ArcInfo command GENERATE, and the data was then reprojected into the project-standard coordinate system and projection. Lastly, data was manually reselected using ArcEdit to reduce quantity and overlap in annotation labeling.
