Dear friends:

I'm trying EMDS in my thesis research, but when I'm running the
Priority Analysis tutorial I get the following message:

Unable to open Priority Analysis
Priority Analysis encountered an error in procedure
mOblectdataBase.AttDB_Recreate.
PA Error (10) prvAltsDB_rsGetRSFromDBF:ADO_GetAltsRecords:

I'm using windows XP office 2003, and I have tried modifications in
the office database manager but I get the same message.

It appears that some XP machines come with a strangely versioned
Visual Fox Pro ODBC driver that the EMDS 3.0 PA (which used the VFP
ODBC driver in MDAC 2.5) doesn't like.

Here is a work around.

You need to install an OLDER Fox Pro driver from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates/odbc/default.aspx
(use the VFPODBC.MSI option just below "Download Now" about half way
down the page). You should then be able run the PA from the EMDS
without a problem.

Of course, MS advises against doing this. My guess is that you have
the 1.0.2.0 version of the VFPODBC.DLL file on your machine which is
actually newer (2000) than the 6.1.8629.1 version I'm advising you to
install.  The 1.0.2.0 version ships with some XP operating systems.

The install should work, as the older version does have the higher
version number. But you should check by checking the version number of
c:\windows\system32\vfpodbc.dll after the install and confirming that
it is now 6.1.8629.1

Warning: If you use the Visual FoxPro ODBC driver for other programs
(it is usually used only for dbf files), you might want to think twice
before doing this!

Hello,

I seem to have a similar problem, but I'd like to make sure your work-around is applicable to my particular situation as I'm using a more recent version of EMDS and my error message is slightly different (any kind of help would be greatly appreciated):

I'm using EMDS 3.1.1.0 and ArcGIS 9.0 Build 580 in a Windows XP Pro (SP2).

When running the Priority Analysis, I get the following message:

"Unable to open Priority Analyst. Priority Analyst encountered an error in procedure
mObjDataBase.AltDB_LoadMetaData. PA Error [10] prvAltsDB_rsGetRSFromDBF: ADODBF_GetAltsRecords: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver does not support this function SQL = Select * from 'C:\Program Files\...' Unable to load Alts Meta Data."

Judging by the extreme similarity between my error message and the error message being discussed in this thread, am I correct in assuming the same work-around would be applicable in my case (despite the difference in EMDS versions)?

Again, any help/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks so much for your time!

I checked my VFPODBC.DLL file and it is, in fact, 1.0.2.0 ...I therefore went ahead and downloaded the 'older' version 6.1.8629.1.

Problem solved. My problem was, in fact, the exact same problem discussed in this thread.
