Reactivate an EMDS mailing list?

    Reactivate an EMDS mailing list?

I'm afraid I only sporadically remember to visit the EMDS forums, even though I'm quite interested in sharing information with other users.  I suspect others might also be in this boat.  The forums are great for archiving messages, but when I post something I feel there is little chance others will see it in a timely manner.  So I just wanted to make a plea for reactivating some type of mailing list (listserver), where I would receive any posts directly in my inbox.

I want to make sure that everyone knows that you can setup forum subscriptions. Subscriptions will send you an email everytime a message is posted to the forum.

You can activate these subscriptions by going to the main Forums page by clicking the Forums tab above and then to "Forum Subsriptions" in the Shortcuts group on the right of your screen. From here you can put a check box next to the forums you would like to subscribe to and receive emails for.

Also, if you are interested in a specific topic or thread but don't want to receive all EMDS posts, you may click on "Enable Email Subscriptions" from any forum post.

    Thanks!

    Nate,

This subscription option looks like a nice feature, but I'm afraid it has never worked for me. I've signed up for these notifications (multiple times) on multiple forums but have never received a message by email (including this one you just posted).  Even if it did work, I'd still suggest a more traditional listserver (with a web interface/archive is nice!) because it gives you some idea of who you're reaching.  With the forums you don't know who is signed up or if anyone will actually see your message.  It's true that a listserver wouldn't allow you to pick only specific threads you're interested in monitoring, but I think the cost of viewing a few less relevant messages would be outweighed by the feeling that there's an interested community out there (and sometimes you learn things that you hadn't thought of).  I realize a listserve may not be technically feasible with your setup (or administrative time constraints), but maybe there are tweaks that could move it in this direction.

In a possibly related issue, my computers never remember to log me in automatically, even though I've chosen that option multiple times.

    Thanks for listening - Sean
