Subject: new home for EMDS

In mid-April 2006, the USDA Forest Service signed a memorandum of
understanding with the University of Redlands (Redlands, CA), under
which the Redlands Institute will assume an important custodial role in
the continuing maintenance and development of EMDS. The Institute will
assume management of the EMDS website, handle distribution of the
software, maintain a user data base, and host a web forum. The
Institute will also host a newly formed private, nonprofit development
group that is already proceeding with plans for further system
development. The changeover is just getting underway, and will be
phasing in over the next few months.
