Primary KB topics: Forest stand conditions and habitat patch metrics
Geographic scope: Washington state-managed forest trust lands
Scale of analysis: Forest stands, habitat patches, and state management units
Additional Comments: In Oct 2006 we started a process to create models to assess northern spotted owl (strix occidentalis caurina) dispersal habitat on Washington state lands. The models will be used as part of the environmental impact assessment process for evaluating forest management alternatives for the major forest management units in the state. We hope to create models at multiple scales (stand, neighborhood, patch, management unit) and to devise ways to evaluate a series of habitat assessments over time (i.e. over the 70 years of forest conditions which will be simulated for each management alternative). We will post documents and models as they become available. Please contact us if you have questions or relevant experiences to share
